Hand puppet partners will romantically revel in a duet-driven karaoke contest this Valentine's Day season at the 2006 Puppet Karaoke Love-Alooza, at the M-Room in Fishtown Feb 16th. Special prizes will be available for audience participants, including an award for 'Best Duet'.
The Puppet Karaoke Universe Show is a harmony of hand puppet theatre, pick-your-song karaoke and late night comedy club craziness. Hosted by eternal nice-guy David Cassanova (of PeekaBoo Revue Cabaret fame), the event features a regular cast of puppets, such as ex-Japanese gameshow host Biibom-Biibom, the lovable Dirty Stinkin' Ape and newcomer hip-hop corn-on-the-cob artist N.O.T.O.R.I.U.S. Shucksta' (who often contributes some original rhymes to the proceedings). Audience members may bring their own puppets to the show, or construct a character onsite, then take the microphone and stage to join the oft-heated competition.
The annual Valentine's Day-themed edition of the show typically features many guest duets and for this reason, a prize will be awarded in this special category. Of course, loners may perform too.
The M-Room is located at 15 W Girard Ave. The show is Thursday, February 16th at 9:30 PM. There is a $4 cover and advance tickets are available online.
