Comedienne Carolyn Busa will host an unpredictable night of improv comedy featuring singing puppets as the infamous Puppet Karaoke Show returns to Connie's Ric-Rac for an all new show on Friday, April 17th.
Puppet Karaoke has been featured in various venues throughout the Philadelphia, New Jersey and New York areas for the past 5 years, and this marks the wild and crazy puppets' return to South Philly since their last appearance there in January 2007. The show mixes off-the-wall puppet theatre with real honest karaoke, all moderated by a human 'host' of varying degrees of celebrity. In April's show at Connie's, Carolyn Busa will be the plucky redhead running the festivities. Busa, a Rowan University graduate and recent headliner of Collingswood Comedy Cabaret, is a regular performer throughout the New Jersey and Philadelphia area, and maintains a strong belief in sleeping with stuffed animals. Previous Puppet Karaoke shows have featured hosts such as NYC comedian Jonathan Randall, Johnny Cash tribute artist David Stone and radio personality Robert Drake. "We're excited to come back to South Philadelphia after over 2 years," says Alex Strang, the show's creator. "The area looks like it's changed in that time, but our blatant disregard for high comedy standards has not." Puppet Karaoke's unscripted comedy combines with real audience participation as anyone can choose a song and take the puppetstage microphone, provided they have brought a puppet with them or have the impulse to build one onsite with the nearby Emergency Puppet Contruction Zone. PK, as it is known, boasts a large regular cast of crazy puppet characters, such as the adorable cat-fairy Mitzil P to the agoraphobic self-made business guru, Tony Trainwreck. The Puppet Karaoke World Revenge Tour is Friday, April 17th. Doors open at 8:00 PM.
