Stucco Lobster Breadbox Hosts Puppet Karaoke

Notorius Comedy Band from Delaware hosts Puppet Karaoke Intergalactic Wham-Bam this June
The "Beatles of Delaware" (as proclaimed by Philadelphia anti-folk hero and Guinness World Record Holder Adam Brodsky), Delaware-born comedy musicologists Stucco Lobster Breadbox will orchestrate the crazy cosmic puppet proceedings on Thursday, June 29th during the 2006 Puppet Karaoke Intergalactic Wham-Bam at the M-Room in Fishtown, Philadelphia. The infusion of toy xylophone-driven ditties into the award-winning Puppet Karaoke Universe Show (itself a blend of comedy improv, real karaoke and bizarre puppets) represents the latest in an ongoing series of celebrity-hosted editions of the monthly PKU show.

Stucco Lobster Breadbox was born in 1994, regrouped in 2000 and re-regrouped in '03. The band currently consists of Jeremy "Germ" Bell (Vocals, toy xylophone) and Jonathan Pron (Guitar, vocals). Their brand of twisted novelty tunes has been described as "Sesame Street meets Howard Stern" ( Kathy Cammett of Golden Voice Studios) and, according to Out & About Magazine, "The Violent Femmes meet Beavis & Butthead," and "Folk gone horribly wrong; like an asylum, but without all of the padding." They have played in Delaware and Philadelphia venues for over 10 years, achieved first place in WHYY's Battle of the Bands, and have been featured on 91.3 WVUD's "Local Vocals" radio show with Scott Birney. With two albums and an unending schedule of appearances, Stucco Lobster Breadbox seems destined to confuse and entertain for a long time, surely earning the right to the title of "stupidest band name in the world", the group's original goal back in '94.

The Intergalactic Wham-Bam is an outer-space-themed edition of the continually evolving Puppet Karaoke Universe Show, where a cadre of mad hand puppets perform real karaoke to a stunned crowd. Regular cast members include characters such as ex-Japanese gameshow host Biibom-Biibom, closet agoraphobic Tony Trainwreck and astral-projection expert Professor Jiggery-Pokery. Audience participation is key, as anyone may compete for prizes, by bringing their own original puppet or building one at the craft table, choosing a song and taking the stage. The combination of puppetry skill and vocal styling makes each performance challenging and strangely entertaining. Highlights from the show and unique performances are featured in the show's weekly podcast.

The show is produced by Alex Strang and R.S. Purcell of local comedy purveyors, Waiting For Cable. The M-Room is located at 15 W Girard Ave in Fishtown, Philadelphia. The show is Thursday, June 29th at 9:30 PM. There is a $5 cover and advance tickets are available at http://www.cybergecko.com. Stucco Lobster Breadbox preparing for the show
