The Platonics: Making Friends With Puppets

Intellectual Rockers host Puppet Karaoke Jamboree Jam This November
Slappin' some rhythm and rockin' the blues, The Platonics are in Fishtown playing their dues. The latest incarnation of musical genius Rhys George and new partner Ivy B are hitting the stage, the puppet stage, that is, as the band hosts the 2006 Puppet Karaoke Jamboree Jam on November 16th at the M-Room in Fishtown, a harvest-holiday-theme night of 100% interactive singing puppets and some truly effervescent rock and roll.

The Platonics are a stimulating 5-piece intellectual rock band headed by ex-Kreaser Rhys George and singer songstress Ivy B. While performing unique and surprising cover tunes, and innovative cross-genre mash-ups, this formidable pairing is most recognizable as the creators of an engaging set list of original songs that ranges from downbeat beer-crying melodrama to upbeat good-feelin' dance ditty. The Platonics also have the dubious distinction of being a band once kicked out of South Philadelphia's Shamrock Pub, ostensibly for being 'too intellectual'.

The Puppet Karaoke Jamboree Jam is a special version of the continuing interactive live show, where hand puppets perform real honest karaoke in a comedy nightclub atmosphere. Part improv, part puppet theatre and part vocal talent contest, the award-winning Puppet Karaoke Universe Show stars a diverse cast of crazy characters such as Self-Help Freddy and The Boxy Twins, and also allows audience members to participate with their own homemade puppets. The show has often featured celebrity hosts, such as Stucco Lobster Breadbox, The Minor Prophets, Elizabeth Fiend and Dirty Diamond, to name a few.

The ongoing PKU show is produced by R.S. Purcell and Alex Strang of Waiting For Cable. The M-Room is located at 15 W Girard Ave. The Jamboree Jam show is Thursday, November 16th at 9:00 PM. There is a $5 cover and advance tickets are available online.
